The Apocalypse by Andrew Zuchero

Debuting at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and only available on YouTube, this short film shows a world where anyone with a good idea is inexplicably destroyed, and only the simple minded are left standing…. I feel as if this apocalypse has been happening for a while now.

Pour Paintings by Holton Rower
These psychedelic looking paintings are created by Holton Rower. The way they are made is rather simple, it’s exactly what you think, pour layer after layer of coloured paints onto a plywood box. The results are stunning though, and I’ve embedded a nice timelapse video made by Dave Kaufman that shows the creative process in much more detail. Well worth checking out.

Quilled Paper Reproduction of Beck’s “Song Reader” Book Cover by Ham
This is definitely the definition of a dedicated fan. Japanese artist Ham painstakingly re-created the cover of Becks “Song Reader” book by using nothing more than paper and some glue. A fantastic time lapse video is embedded below that shows the entire making process and it’s definitely worth a watch.

Gravity Defying Photography by Cerise Doucède
By using strings to suspend objects in midair, French photographer Cerise Doucède is able to create dream like images frozen in time. Finding inspiration in normal day to day tasks, the mundane nature of the scene is juxtaposed with the encapsulating fantasy world swirling around the subjects. Cerise also deliberately leaves the strings in shot and visible to the viewer, she does this to maintain a connection between reality and the surreal moments captured.

iPhone Photos by Brock Davis
I’ve been a fan of Brock Davis for quite some time now. Ever since I saw his “Make Something Cool Every Day“ series on Behance I’ve been fascinated by his creativity and the clean composition of all his work. I recently saw that he’d published a nice compilation of all his iPhone photos from 2012, so I picked out a couple of my favourites as well as a few new ones to show you why I enjoy his work so much.

Private Moon by Leonid Tishkov
This captivating mobile art installation and visual poem tells the tale of “a man who met the moon and stayed with her forever”. Russian artist Leonid Tishkov has travelled all over the world with the illuminated moon for ten years capturing unique moments in unexpected places in a wide variety of countries.
“The moon is a shining point that brings people together from different countries, of different nationalities and cultures. And everyone who gets in its orbit does not forget it ever. It gives fairytale and poetry in our prosy and mercantile world.”

Lightwork by Conrad Shawcross
These hypnotic light machines often look and move like robots found in a car factory, but these elaborate kinetic sculptures have bright lights attached to their limbs and as they rotate their arms they create wonderful geometric shapes out of the light trails. Conrad has created many of these installations and all of them are fascinating, his website is linked below, where you can find the entire “Lightwork” series.

Hiding In The City by Liu Bolin
Liu Bolin is no stranger to my blog and I’ve posted his work several times during my time on tumblr. This post features work from his latest project titled, Hiding in the City, where he effectively becomes an invisible man in various surroundings throughout China and Paris. Only the faint outline of his body gives away his position, and there’s no photoshop trickery here, it’s pure body art which leaves him standing perfectly still for hours on end.

Room Portraits by Menno Aden
Through challenging camera angles Menno is able to flattern cluttered spaces into two dimensions. By fixing a camera to the ceiling of a room the chaotic spaces that we live in seem organised and neat when the reality is often drastically differant.
“For me as an artist, watching from a higher position on a small space is interesting because I can see someone’s compressed personality”

Designer Drugs by Desire Obtain Cherish
In todays society we’re taught that merchandise will fill every void, but it’s really a bottomless pit of continuous disappointment as you struggle to keep up with the changing trends and the realisation that designer goods do not equate to happiness. So when you’re inevitably still unhappy while wearing designer clothing, pharmaceuticals are here to help. So pop a pill and keep buying.

Grace Series by Jonni Cheatwood
Jonni Cheatwood’s work is often in the form of geometric abstraction, but his recent series entitled Grace displays his unique take on self portraits. By pouring brightly coloured acrylic paint down a black and white image of himself he’s created a rather striking set of abstract images that maintain his anonymity.

Reverse Graffiti by Alexandre Orion
Way back in 2007 Alexandre Orion took a cloth to a São Paulo underpass and proceeded to clean. By carefully removing the grime and dust from the wall he was able to create a magnificent mural that spanned the length of the tunnel. In the video embedded below you’ll see that during the process the police were called to the scene. However they were unable to charge him with any crime because he was merely creatively cleaning. In order to remove his work the city were forced to wash the entire tunnel, which was clearly in need of being done anyway.

Photography of Stockholm’s Metro Station by Alexander Dragunov
I’ve seen images of Stockholm’s magnificent metro system before, but I recently found these incredible images by Alexander Dragunov which really display the awe inspiring nature of the art work covering every wall. Around 90 stations within the city are hosting various works by almost 150 artists, which results in a 110km art exhibition that’s easily accessible to all.
