How Much Food Can You Buy For $5 Around The World?

This is a cool little video by BuzzFeed that show’s how much food $5 can get you in various countries. They say “around the world” but it’s really only a hand full of countries, but still, it’s nice know that beer is incredibly cheap in China.

Aurora Borealis Timelapse by Göran Strand
When a solar flare occurred on March 15th of this year the solar winds hit earth and created a mesmerising cosmic light display over Sweden, known as the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights. Using 2464 raw images Göran Strand was able to capture the event and created this magnificent time lapse. I’ve embedded the video below and I highly recommend taking a moment out of your day to chill out and watch.

Solving A Rubix Cube While Juggling

This just made my day! It’s bloody hard to solve a Rubix Cube while holding it with both hands and following a guide, but to solve it while throwing it in the air with two other balls is mind blowing. The guys name is Ravi and he definitely deserves to be entered into the Guinness Book of Records for this.

Street Performer Plays Crystal Glasses

An incredible street performer recreates Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen using nothing more than water and wine glasses. I have no idea who this person is, or where he’s from, but this is mesmerising and I’ve never seen anything like it before.

UPDATE: So after doing some research I’ve found out his name is Petr Spatina, and there’s a video of him performing on tv which you can see here.

Paperman by Walt Disney
Disney recently released their beautiful Oscar nominated short film on YouTube. The charming story is so simple yet so wonderful, however the technology behind the production is far from simple. The groundbreaking animation technique is known as Meander and it combines both computer generated 3D modelling with the traditional hand drawn animation technique to produce an incredibly modern image with a nostalgic feel, especially when the entire story is in black and white. I’ve embedded the video below and I couldn’t recommend anything better to watch right now.

A Bird Ballet by Neels Castillon

Happy accidents always bring joy to our lives, none more so than in this beautiful video. While shooting for a commercial in Marseille, France Neels Castillon was suddenly swarmed by thousands upon thousands of birds. I’ve seen similar footage before of flocks of Starlings swirling through the sky like this and it always baffles me how they never collide, and move in such union.

Innocent, In A Way. by Alexis Wanneroy

This thought provoking film shows the creative process of Spanish artist Alberto Mielgo as he talks about his work with nudes and introduces us to the porn actress Belladonna, who has become his latest subject. Although this video is NSFW I highly recommend watching it as it’s very insightful and beautifully produced.

The Apocalypse by Andrew Zuchero

Debuting at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and only available on YouTube, this short film shows a world where anyone with a good idea is inexplicably destroyed, and only the simple minded are left standing…. I feel as if this apocalypse has been happening for a while now.

Cranberry Wakeboarding by Redbull

This is amazing, the shots from above are beautiful and I honestly learnt something new about how cranberries are grown and harvested. This video is both informative and entertaining, definitely worth watching.

"The winch crew travel to Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin, for one of the most aesthetically pleasing wakeskating sessions you will ever see. Watch what happens when some of the world’s best wakeskaters take over a cranberry bog"

The Doughnut Vault

I love this little documentary about the sights and sounds of a small doughnut shop in Chicago that serves hand made doughnuts from 8am ‘til sold out. Very traditional aesthetics inside and out and to have people queueing outside the door every day means they must be pretty damn good doughnuts. Oh and they have a tumblr!

Leonid and Zodiacal Light by Stephane Vetter

This incredible timelapse video was shot using a 8mm fisheye lens, meaning you see the entire visible sky, and captures over 5 hours of magnificent star trails. Not only is the video wonderful, but the music and convenient labels that pop up throughout make the entire experience truly captivation. This is a must watch and should be view in HD on full screen.

"610 shoots with a Nikon D3 and a Sigma 8 mm. Very lucky because the time-lapse was started only 7 minutes before a big meteor passes through the sky …"
